Rose Care for August!
Now that Mother Nature has pulled back on the rainfall it’s time to hook up your hose to water
your rose bushes! Large rose bushes require 2 to 5 gallons of water 3 times a week. If it’s really
hot you may need to water everyday. Each time you water, wet the soil about a foot deep.

The best time to water is early morning to reduce evaporation and allow foliage adequate time to dry.

Deliver water directly to the base of a rose bush with a soaker hose or drip irrigation system. Avoid
watering from overhead with a sprinkler or hand- held hose and watering wand - unless it’s early in
the day.

A 1 to 3-in layer of mulch helps to retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth. Organic mulch
is beneficial because it breaks down gradually and adds nutrients to the soil.

Be sure to continue to feed your bushes with your favorite rose food or use Miracle Gro or Peters
20-20-20. Your bushes will love you for it and give you many beautiful blooms!!
